Our promise to you

At Flick our plans have been designed to put you in charge of your power.  That means we’re committed to helping you ensure you’re on the best Flick plan for how you typically use power and your wallet.

How it works

Every 90 days we’ll review your power usage. We’ll look at the times of day you typically use power, calculate your variable kWh and fixed daily charge, and compare it against the rates of our Flat and Off Peak pricing plans. We’ll be able to tell you if your electricity usage data means that you’re on the best Flick plan for your household, or if there’s savings to be made by changing to a different Flick plan. Easy!

Which is the best plan for you?

Our Off Peak plan

This plan is ideal if you’re using most of your power during off-peak hours when prices are cheaper. If most of your power usage is actually at peak times and you’d be better off on our Flat plan, we’ll let you know at your 90-day review. You can choose to change to Flat, or keep things as they are – it’s up to you!

Off-peak hours are 11am-5pm, 9pm-7am and all weekend
Our Flat plan

This plan is best for you if most of your power usage is during peak hours (7am-11am and 5pm-9pm on weekdays, except in Christchurch, where it's 7am-9pm on weekdays), with a consistent rate all day and night. If most of your power usage is actually at off-peak times and you’d be better off on our Off Peak plan, we’ll let you know at your 90-day review. You can choose to make the move to Off Peak, or continue with Flat – either way, you’ve got the power!

If our review of your power usage shows that you’re on the right plan, we’ll keep reviewing your power usage each 90 days, and we’ll email you every 180 days confirming it’s still the one for you.

What’s our Flickin’ Best Plan Promise?

It’s our promise to you that we’ll ensure you’re on the right plan for your lifestyle and your wallet. Every 90 days we’ll review your power usage, looking at the times of day you typically use power, calculating your variable kWh and fixed daily charge, and comparing it against our Flat and Off Peak plan rates.

We’ll then email you to tell you if changing to another plan could save you money.

Why do we review your power usage every 90 days?

90 days gives us a good view of your usage patterns so that we can make an informed plan recommendation. Sometimes the way you use power can change based on the season or your lifestyle (like having the in-laws to stay, or swapping out winter soups for summertime BBQs!) –  and reviewing every 90 days ensures we’re checking in regularly to stay as flexible as you are.

Remember, if you think your usage patterns may shift, then you don’t have to change a thing – you’ve got the power.

Will I get an email from Flick every 90 days?

You’ll get your first Flickin’ Best Plan Promise email once you’ve been with Flick for 90 days, letting you know if it’s worth changing plans or if you’re on the best plan already. For each subsequent 90 day period, we’ll only email you if your data shows that you’d be better off changing plans. If your review shows that you’re still on the best plan for your power usage, then we’ll get in touch every 180 days to let you know.


How does the calculation work?

We delve deep and use your 30-minute meter data to calculate your average kWh usage from the past 90 days and the specific times of day you’re using power.

Then we identify whether our Off Peak or Flat plan is cheaper for you, based on your usage patterns.

Why has Flick created the Flickin’ Best Plan Promise?

The way you use power can change throughout the year – maybe you’re working from home more, or getting your money’s worth out of that new outdoor pizza oven – and that can mean you might be better off on a different Flick pricing plan.

We’re all about putting the power in your hands, and ensuring we’re checking in regularly (every 90 days to be precise!) to stay as flexible as you are.

Remember, it’s just a recommendation, so if you think your usage patterns may shift again, then you don’t have to change a thing – you’ve got the power. 

How often can I change plans?

At Flick, you can change plans as often or as little as you like.

What happens if I don't want to change to a different plan?

No problemo! If you’re happy with your current plan, you don’t need to change a thing.

What happens with my 90-day review if I change plans?

If you change plans or move to a new property, your contract with Flick is renewed. That means your 90-day review will start afresh 90 days from the date that your new contract begins. 


How do I accept your recommendation to change to a different plan?

Can I get a refund of any savings I could have made?

We're not offering refunds as part of our Flickin' Best Plan Promise. That's because our calculations of any savings you might have made by changing plans in the last 90 days are an estimate, based on similar usage patterns. We've created Flickin' Best Plan Promise to help our Flick whānau know if they're on the best Flick plan for their power usage, or whether they could save money going forward by changing plans.
